The biggest Honda crisis in MotoGP

The gold wing never had such a poor start, because it had always been on the drawer in the first five races sometime since 2002. Marquez's loss takes its toll.

Honda is going through the greatest crisis of results since MotoGP became the premier class, starting in 2002. Without a doubt, Marc Márquez's loss from the second race is taking a toll on the brand with the golden wing, which has not celebrated a only podium in the first five races of the 2020 season, with Takaaki Nakagami's fourth in the Andalusian GP as the best result so far. And that is something that has never happened to the factory with the most important track record in the championship.

The drought was about to end in the race of the Styrian GP, because Nakagami was fighting for second place with Jack Miller, far from the reach of his pursuers when the red flag for the fall of Maverick Viñales, who was left without brakes, forced stop the race. However, in the restart the Japanese could only finish seventh, 1.8 behind the unexpected winner, Miguel Oliveira. The LCR Honda was the best in his factory by far, because Álex Márquez finished 16th, Cal Crutchlow 17th and Stefan Bradl (replaces Marc) 18th.

Along these lines is accompanied a list of Honda podiums in the first five races of the last decade and there is no course so poor that it resembles the one today. The worst, that of 2015, when they had only celebrated three podiums after this same period and it was precisely the only year that Marc missed the title, as it will also happen now, because his reappearance is not scheduled even for September. To go back to the best of all Honda starts in the first five races you have to travel to 2003, when they added a whopping 11 podiums between Rossi (3-2-0), Gibernau (2-0-0) and Biaggi ( 0-2-2). How far that is and how much the World Championship has changed, because now even KTM has triple the podiums of Honda, with two wins (Binder and Oliveira) and a third (Pol) .
