Simon Yates renews with Mitchelton for two seasons

Team owner Gerry Ryan confirmed the agreement whereby the winner of the 2018 Vuelta a España will remain at Mitchelton for two more years.


British Simon Yates, winner of the 2018 Vuelta a España and double stage winner of the Tour de France, has renewed his contract with Mitchelton Scott for two more seasons.

The Yates' renewal comes after team owner Gerry Ryan, in the structure since its inception in 2012, confirmed his commitment to the team for another two years, while continuing to compete at the highest level on the UCI World Tour.

Since the 28-year-old Yates joined the team as a neo-professional in 2014, he has achieved 17 victories, including stages in the three Grand Tours, and has become one of the best climbers in the world, winning the 2018 Vuelta a España. and finishing in the top 10 in the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia.

Yates, who started the 2020 campaign in Australia in January, resumed racing at the Vuelta a Burgos and the Tour of Poland, where he took the podium overall, and is now preparing for a third consecutive attempt at glory at the Giro d'Italia .

"The journey with the team has been great so far, I have grown and matured as a person and as a rider. We have had many successes and many failures along the way, but I am looking forward to continuing the season together and looking for more victories," he said.
