Romelu Lukaku, the 'Beast' who returned from the coronavirus

The Inter forward acknowledged having had a very bad time in confinement and criticized his team's manners, but he is breaking records in this Europa League.

"I have no doubt that we will win the title," says Romelu Menama Lukaku Bolingoli (Antwerp, Belgium, 1993) with serene assurance just after Inter hit Shakhtar (5-0) with a double from the Belgian included. Two goals that serve for Lukaku to claim the record of having scored in 10 consecutive games in the Europa League, a deferred mark because five of them were with Everton in 2014-15 and the other five were achieved with the Nerazzurri, who fell in December of the Champions League at 1/16 of the second continental competition.

13 Lukaku has scored so many in those 10 games. Stuck in Manchester, which paid Everton 85 million and sold it for 75 two years later, Romelu never felt comfortable at Old Trafford. At Inter he was getting to know his best version again before the coronavirus took away Serie A, football, the World. But, after scoring 17 goals in 23 Serie A games, Lukaku was depressed with quarantine in an apartment in the center of the Lombard city. "Without my mother, without my son, without companions, without playing ... It's very hard. I could hardly train and they sent me a bicycle," said the striker in an interview by Zoom on Belgian television, almost in tears.

Desperation even led him to denounce through Instagram a certain neglect of Inter. "Before the game against Cagliari, everyone was coughing and had a fever. We never took the Covid exams, so we will not know if we passed it," the Belgian international revealed with some statements that cost him the club's reprimand and for which he had to apologize. So much depression and tantrums made one suspect that the Lukaku who would return after the pandemic would look little like the implacable striker who had returned to appear in San Siro. But on the contrary, he has almost improved: he scored six goals until the end of the League, because an abductor injury stopped him, and he has reached this relentless final phase of the Europa League: goal against Getafe, another against Leverkusen and two against Shakhtar . Diego Carlos and Koundé have already been notified.
