Pierre Oriola elected new captain of Barça

The international power forward takes over from Ante Tomic. Adam Hanga and Nikola Mirotic will complete the trio of captains of Sarunas Jasikevicius' first team

International power forward Pierre Oriola (27 years old and 2.08 meters) is the new captain of Barça for the 2020/2021 season, taking over from Croatian center Ante Tomic, who will play for Joventut de Badalona next season.

Oriola, a native of Tàrrega (Lleida), arrived at Barça in 2017 from Valencia Basket and has been the team's second captain for the last two seasons. He will be accompanied by Adam Hanga and Nikola Mirotic, who complete the trio of captains of the team led by Sarunas Jasikevicius.

The new captain has played a total of 189 games for Barça, between the Endesa League and the Euroleague, in the three seasons in which he has worn the Barça shirt. In addition, this summer he renewed his contract until June 30, 2024.

He considers that for him, being a captain, "is a dream, a huge responsibility and a greater weight that I will carry. Wearing this shirt makes the responsibility already great and now being captain it is multiplied by millions" .

"I will try to help my teammates, the team, and the coaches to understand what this Club is, wear this shirt and what Barça means, not only in Catalonia, but throughout the world. I will try to contribute as much as possible based on work and sacrifice and hopefully lift titles ", explained Oriola once he has been appointed captain.

He has also revealed that, "I spoke with Roger Grimau, to ask him what the Euroleague in Paris meant and what it means to be captain of Barça. I remember Berni Rodríguez when I was in Seville, or in Manresa with Roman Montañez and I have always had very good captains, very good examples, and I hope to be me too and help the team and technical staff to do great things ".
