The British Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Kalex) went to rest after the first day of free runs of the Moto2 Styrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg with the best time in the category, with the Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) and the Spanish Jorge Martín (Kalex) behind him.

Lowes set a best time of 1: 28.773, which in the afternoon he was almost a second (1: 29.623), while Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Kalex) was the fastest, but also without improving his personal record of the Tomorrow, almost no "top" rider could reach in the afternoon session, except for Spanish Jorge Navarro (Speed Up), who "scratched" a tenth of a second to place twelfth.

Jorge Martín (Kalex), one of the contenders for victory in the Styrian race after winning the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring last week, worked hard with his team to try to improve the performance of the bike and that's why it was surprising to see how his mechanics changed the Öhlins suspension bars in the middle of training, in a clear attempt to improve the "sensations" with the front end of his motorcycle.

Meanwhile, in the timesheets the fastest was the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Kalex), although his record (1: 29.092) was still far from the best in the morning, held by the British Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Kalex) with 1: 28.733, especially since the transalpine starred in a very long series of laps that were clearly indicative of training the race pace.

However, the session timers were still far from the best times of the morning, so it was foreseeable that the vast majority of riders in the intermediate category were waiting for the last rear tire change to try to improve their personal records.

The final minutes did not bring very good luck for the Spanish Arón Canet (Speed Up), who was thrown into the ground when he entered turn one at the end of the straight, without consequences for his physical integrity but without the possibility of ending the session , in which Marco Bezzecchi remained the leader all the time, but without improving the record of Sam Lowes.

In the global count of the two Moto2 batches, it was the only category in which the morning record could not be lowered, probably due to the notable increase in temperature, which left Sam Lowes ahead of Remy Gardner and Jorge Martín, with Augusto. Fernández (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Kalex) in sixth position, Arón Canet eighth, Marcos Ramírez (Kalex) eleventh ahead of Jorge Navarro (Speed Up), with Héctor Garzó Kalex), fourteenth and, therefore, within the second classification direct while waiting for the third and last round of free practice.

Out of the second direct classification were Edgar Pons (Kalex), nineteenth, Xavier Vierge (Kalex), twenty-fourth, and Alejandro Medina (Speed Up), thirty.

Medina replaces the Malaysian driver Hafizh Syahrin, from Jorge Martínez's "Aspar" team, who was declared unfit for the test by the Medical Commission of the Grand Prixes.
