LaLiga has approved this Tuesday in the First and Second Division Boards the calendar for the 2020-21 season. As a great novelty, as AS has been able to know, there is their desire for there to be football at Christmas in the First Division, although this proposal that the RFEF has yet to ratify will not be extended to the Second.

LaLiga wants to start the championship when it had been set for two months, on September 12, to be able to finish on May 23 and leave plenty of time for the teams to prepare for the European Championship that was due to play this summer and which was postponed to 2021 for the coronavirus crisis. At the same time, the idea is that the First teams in European positions (Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético) start on the 19th and Sevilla, on the 26th. There will also be a special sensitivity to the Second teams that have played in the playoffs. For this, the employers understand that it is not enough to set several days during the week, but that it will also be necessary to play matches in the Christmas holiday period, as in England, in order to meet the deadlines. To Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, Christmas is not a period that he likes especially for football since audiences tend to drop and the audiovisual product is not so profitable. However, he understands that this time, in a special way, it is a necessary evil.

In Second Division, being a competition that contributes very few footballers to the Eurocup, it would not be necessary to play at Christmas. The season in this category would end on May 30, one week later than in Primera, after the Europa League final (May 26) and the Champions League final (May 29) .

In this calendar approved by LaLiga, which already has the approval of AFE in the absence of specifying some dates and which the RFEF must still approve, it is also noted that on a weekend in January the Spanish Super Cup will be played in Saudi Arabia ( Real Madrid, Barça, Real and Athletic) and that two Copa del Rey finals will have to be played, the one pending this year between Real Sociedad and Athletic and next season (in April 2021). Likewise, the resolution of the dispute, or not, of matches on Fridays and Mondays, is pending, a decision that is judicialized and that will be resolved once the final calendar is made official.

The idea of the Federation is to study now this proposal within the Coordination Agreement with LaLiga, approve the calendar and its qualifications, if any, and immediately organize the draw for it in Las Rozas once the promotion Playoff ends (final between Girona and Elche). The question is whether he would win Fuenlabrada inside or outside Second. The Competition Committee still has to decide when the period of allegations that the Madrid club will make to the report of the investigating judge in which it requests its demotion ends.
