Kristoff: "You can't dream of a better start"

The Norwegian, first yellow jersey thanks to his triumph in Nice: "I felt very strong in the final kilometers. When I reached the finish line I saw myself to win."

Like Thor Hushovd, who in 2006 became the first Norwegian to wear the Tour yellow, Alexander Kristoff scored the opening stage of the Gallic round and donned the leader's jersey. Only Hushovd and Kristoff have worn this garment for Norway: “The victory comes with another prize, the leadership. You cannot dream of a better start. I felt really strong in the final kilometers. The squad left me in a good position as we approached the goal, and I thought I was going to win. What a great feeling ”. Even so, it was ruled out of the battle for green: "I suppose Sagan will take it."

At age 33, Kristoff scored his fourth Tour win. Champion of his country in 2007 and 2011, of Europe in 2017 and of two monuments, San Remo 2014 and Flanders 2015, he is one of the best fast and classic men of this decade: “Days ago I suffered a fall in the Europeans, but in this time luck was with me. I know that my children and my wife see me from home and they will be very proud, so I send them a kiss and I dedicate this success to them, of which they are part of putting up with me and supporting me when I have been away for so many months. ”
