The Canadian cyclist Hugo Houle (Astana), roommate of the Spanish Ion Izagirre in the recent Tour of Poland, has tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, although he does not show symptoms of COVID-19.

Houle maintains his plans to run the Tirreno-Adriatico in September and the Giro d'Italia, once the tests show negative results, according to the Canadian newspaper La Presse.

The Astana team has reported that Houle has undergone further tests this week, the result of which will be known next Friday.

Houle had passed the pre-Tour of Poland tests without incident, but last week he tested positive. He assures that he has no idea where he may have contracted the virus, because he always uses disinfectant and a mask when he is not competing.

"It must have been in the transport or in the hotel," said the cyclist, who is currently quarantined in his apartment in Monaco.

No other Astana rider has tested positive. Ion Izagirre and Jakob Fuglsang (winner of the classic Il Lombardía), his roommates in the Tour of Poland, have tested negative.
