The Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) snatched the pole position from the Spanish Jorge Martín (Kalex) in second qualifying for the Moto2 Austrian Grand Prix that takes place on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg, with the German Marcel Schrotter (Kalex), 3rd.

Gardner added the second pole position of his sporting career by benefiting from the slipstream of Jorge Navarro's motorcycle (Speed Up) and with 36 thousandths of a second advantage over Jorge Martín and something more over the German Marcel Schrotter (Kalex) .

The time of 1: 28.944 was the reference in the first classification, since it was the identical time that the German Marcel Schrotter (Kalex) and the American Joe Roberts (Kalex) set to achieve the pass to the second classification, without None of the Spaniards in the session, Héctor Garzó (Kalex), Edgar Pons (Kalex) and Marcos Ramírez (Kalex), could qualify for it.

The second classification had to be delayed due to technical problems with the timing system, which prevented all pilots from going out on the track while waiting for them to be corrected in order to take the times of all the participating pilots.

After ten minutes of waiting, the second Moto2 classification could begin with the Italian Enea Bastianini (Kalex) as the first reference seconded by the Australian Remy Gardner (Kalex) and the Spanish Arón Canet (Speed Up), although logically with a lot of time ahead to change the landscape, which happened a lap later with the Spaniard, who took the lead with 1: 28.814, just a few thousandths of a second faster than Sam Lowes (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Kalex) .

But behind them Jorge Martín (Kalex) crossed the finish line, on his first fastest lap, with a new best time of 1: 28.717, almost at the same moment in which his teammate and former category leader, the Japanese Tetsuta Nagashima (Kalex), was on the ground and with this he condemned all his options to get a good time because although he tried to continue, the motorcycle could not be repaired in time. With Jorge Martín leading, Marcel Schrotter and Enea Bastianini relegated Arón Canet to fourth place, when the Spaniard decided to enter his workshop to make his second tire change while on the track the Australian Remy Gardner surprised everyone and got the best time, 1: 28.681, helped by the slipstream of Jorge Navarro's motorcycle (Speed Up) .

On his last lap Jorge Martín tried it, but he was one thousandths away from overtaking the Australian, but stopped the clock at 1: 28.868, second, ahead of Marcel Schrotter and with Enea Bastianini, Arón Canet and Sam Lowes in the second row, Jorge Navarro was seventh, Augusto Fernández (Estrella Galicia 0'0 Kalex) was in twelfth position and Xavier Vierge (Kalex), who suffered a fall, finished sixteenth.
