Eibar has communicated that a footballer in its squad has the coronavirus, after tests carried out before the start of the preseason. Like other clubs, the tests were done before the players met, to avoid massive infections. Since then, the infected person has been isolated, in good health. Until next Saturday, training will be individual, until the entire squad can repeat the controls to rule out new cases.

This was reported by Eibar in a note on its website:

"The medical services of SD Eibar have received the results of the PCR tests for the detection of Covid-19 carried out yesterday on the members of the first team, technical staff and employees of the Club and all of them are negative.

Previously, last Monday the Club had notified the health authorities and LaLiga of the detection of a positive corresponding to a member of the squad who was going to join previously, so it had no contact with any teammate.

The affected person is isolated at home in good health.

Eibar starts this afternoon the preseason training, which will be individual until Saturday, the day on which the PCR tests will be repeated, the result of which will depend on whether the group sessions can start next week. "Honorio Martínez, new doctor of the club

Doctor Honorio Martínez Martínez is the new head of Eibar's medical services, a task that he began to carry out this week, according to what the Gipuzkoan First Division club reported on Thursday. The Soriano replaces Alberto Fernández, who has been in this role for four years, since July 2016. Alberto Fernández left the Eibar entity on July 31 to undertake new projects within sports medicine.

The new medical manager of Eibar, born in Soria and settled in Zaragoza until 2019, is a doctor of Medicine and a specialist in sports medicine and physical activity. Honorio Martínez Martínez graduated in medicine and obtained a doctorate 'cum laude' at the University of Zaragoza. Furthermore, he is a specialist in Physical Education and Sports Medicine from the Ministry of Education and Science (Madrid). He is also a specialist in Sports Medicine and Biology from the University of Toulouse (France). He was a doctor of Doping Control of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), a collaborating doctor of the Spanish Athletics Federation, and head of the Medical Services of the National Teams of the Aragonese Football Federation.

Doctor Martínez comes from Numancia CD, where he was the club's chief medical officer last season (2019-2020), where he ranged from the first team from Soria to grassroots football. Previously, he had held a similar responsibility at Real Zaragoza for four years, from 2015 to June 2019. Most of his professional experience is linked to Aragonese football, although he began in futsal.

Eibar appreciates the professionalism, good performance and total willingness shown by Dr. Alberto Fernández in the four seasons in which he has led the medical services of the Eibar entity. Alberto Fernández was in the previous 15 years responsible for the medical services of Saski Baskonia, Vitoria club of the ACB Basketball League.
