Courtois leaves his traditional '13' ... for being the '1' of Real Madrid

His number has always been 13, but it has changed because of what it represents to be '1' in a club like white. Lunin could inherit his bib.

At Real Madrid they continue to prepare little by little for next season and that is being noticed at all levels. Among the news or details that are leaving the last days, it is necessary to highlight a change of number, and it will not be the only one in these weeks, in the Zidane squad: Courtois leaves 'his' 13 and will carry the 1, as already stated in the club official website. The logical thing would be that Lunin inherited the '13'.

It is a very special variation for the current Zamora, who in no team had this number. Courtois has a predilection for the '13', silkscreened on his shirt at both Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea. Before, at the KRK Genk, he had worn the '28'. At the Bernabéu it had to be released with the '25' because the '13' was from Kiko Casilla and the '1', from Keylor Navas.

Courtois, the '1' for Real Madrid and Belgium

Casilla came out in the winter market of Courtois' first season at the Bernabéu, while Keylor did so in the summer. However, the Costa Rican's departure to PSG was at the last minute and the regulations prevented the change for the Belgian, since a footballer cannot play with two numbers in the same team and in the same campaign. Now it is possible and, despite the love of the goal to the '13', all the symbolism that implies being the '1' of Real Madrid has made him take the step.

Courtois will thus join such mythical names in the history of Madrid as Zamora, Miguel Ángel, Buyo, Casillas or the aforementioned Keylor, who also carried the '1'. In addition, from now on, he will have the same number in his club and in the Belgium team, first classified in the FIFA Ranking. With his country he debuted with the '12' in 2011, but since 2012 he has worn the '1'.
