Castroviejo will not defend the National Time Trial either

The Biscayan cyclist announced this Monday that he will not be able to start the Spanish Time Trial Championships as he is concentrating with the Ineos for the Tour.

The trickle of casualties continues for the Spanish Road Cycling Championships to be held this weekend in Jaén. The proximity in the calendar of the national championships and the Tour de France, which starts on the 29th in Nice, have forced the teams to shield their riders to avoid risks in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.

If this Monday morning we knew the absence of the Spanish champion on the road, Alejandro Valverde, to be concentrated with Movistar for the Tour de France, late on Monday the current Spanish time trial champion, Jonathan Castroviejo, also announced his loss for the 2020 national championships. "Unfortunately I will not participate in the Spanish Time Trial championships. Now I am focused on the Tour de France with the Ineos team," lamented the Biscayan cyclist.

In statements to the newspaper El Correo, Castroviejo confessed that "I am sorry not to go to the Spanish Championship, but the first thing is the Tour", while affirming that he could not "get out of the team bubble" before the Tour de France Since Castroviejo, except for a capital surprise, will be part of the 'eight' of the Ineos for the Tour together with Egan Bernal, Chris Froome or Geraint Thomas among others.
