The Bahrain-McLaren driver will try to take his teammate Mikel Landa to the top of the podium in Paris. Before flying to France, Pello spoke with AS.

Yes, it was a goal that we had set since the beginning of the year, and being able to cross it off the list has been important.

It was a treacherous ending, it ended in a harsh way.

The truth is, it was a route that suited me like a glove. Ever since Momparler, the coach, explained it to me, I had it between my eyebrows. Despite the difficulties I did not want to miss the appointment, I knew I had my options because in the end they are the routes that suit me best, routes with a lot of ups and downs. And even in the first stage it was very fast and it also favored me now that I have worked the aerodynamics well. The second part was where I could make a difference, since it was a continuous up and down with some technical descent. The end, very hard, super demanding. We all arrived with very fair forces and thank goodness I had some margin to manage the last climb, because if it had not been a real agony.

Now with Mikel to the Tour, and without nuances to help him.

It is clear. We go all the team one hundred percent dumps with him. Hopefully that also makes a difference, that the fact of having a veteran, powerful team, quite well balanced around him and with very clear ideas gives us a plus.

The route is very mountainous, will Landa do well, right?

It is sure that the route favors you. It is necessary to arrive alive to the last week, in which I believe that the differences will be made. Before, it will be easy to fail at any stage because there are many traps. But the key will be to arrive with a little bit of freshness at the stages of the Alps.
