The New Zealander signed his second triumph as a professional in a final of heart attack. Ulissi, on his heels, and Van der Poel, closed the podium.

The superiority of Jumbo-Visma in the current cycling season seems to have no end. The recent sequence of victories is scary: Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo and a stage in Dauphiné for Van Aert, and the Tour de l'Ain plus two partial victories for Primoz Roglic. These successes are now joined by Gran Piemonte, thanks to the fantastic performance of George Bennett, a luxury gregarious of the Dutch team who has seen the fruit of his efforts rewarded. The New Zealander, at 30, signed his second triumph as a professional, since until now he only had the general of the Tour of California on his record.

The resolution of this Italian race, with 187 km of route and full of short ascents, was most exciting, it took place in the rain. Most of the stars of the peloton are in the Dauphiné, but the list of favorites on Italian roads was also very high: Van der Poel, Nibali, Moscon, Aru, Sosa, Ulissi ... 444 444But before Bennett's surprise jumped, Nibali tried it 8km from the finish, a classic El Tiburon acceleration that has given him many joys in the past (for example, in Milan-San Remo). But today was not his day, but that of the very fine Jumbo-Visma rider, who changed the rhythm and maintained a spectacular development to which not even Van der Poel could respond. Only Ulissi came close in the last 200 meters to enter the New Zealander's wheel, but it was too late. Van der Poel, top seed, had to settle for third place. There are 11 victories for the Dutch team in 2020 and it does not seem that the streak is going to end anytime soon ... 444 444Results
