FIA President Jean Todt said after recently visiting former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher that the German, who suffered a ski accident in 2013, is "fighting" to recover from his injuries.

Jean Todt, head of the Ferrari team when Schumacher was the king of Formula 1, assured that he visits his former driver whenever possible and expressed his hope that he may appear again in public "at some point" .

"He is fighting. I hope the world can see him again. That is why both he and his family are working," Todt said in a statement to 'Mail on Sunday' in the framework of the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Todt, who did not reveal any medical details for privacy reasons, did reveal that he visits him frequently and that the 'kaiser' is recovering at his home, on the shores of Lake Geneva (Switzerland). On the other hand, the FIA president commented that he would not mind if Lewis Hamilton improved Schumacher's records in Formula 1. The Briton is only six wins out of 91 that Schumacher added, and one of the seven German world titles. .

"I know it may happen that Lewis breaks Michael's record as the most successful driver in history. All the ingredients are there for him to do it with Mercedes. I honestly don't care," said Todt.

.

"I remember back in 2000 when I was on the podium at Suzuka with Michael, after he won his first Ferrari title, that I told him that our lives would never be the same again. We had accomplished everything we wanted. After an accident like the one Michael has had, does it matter if Lewis wins more? "
