Pogacar takes revenge in Slovenia with the title of time trial

The Slovenian revalidated his national title in that discipline, beating the great favorite, Primoz Roglic. Last week he was second on the road.

Change of roles in the National Time Trial Championship in Slovenia. Tadej Pogacar, second last week in the road race after Primoz Roglic, this time took the cat overboard ahead of his compatriot and great favorite, thus revalidating the title of best Slovenian time trialist that he achieved in 2019. Jan Polanc, teammate from Pogacar in the UAE Team Emirates, completed the podium.

As already happened in the road race, the weather conditions were not the best, with cold, cloudy skies and abundant rain. The runners had to face practically a time trial, since of the 15.7 kilometers of the route, 8 were made up of a port. The climb to Pokljuka, first class, would be decisive with its average slope of 6.9%, ideal for both Roglic and Pogacar, the top favorites.

But curiously, the first important reference of the day was given by veteran Janez Brajkovic (35 years old), who was returning to the competition after a ten-month suspension for doping in the 2018 Tour of Croatia. In addition to complaining at the end of the appointment for alleged lack of security ("it would be appropriate to take at least some security measures ... there were none") was left out of the podium for only six seconds, since the bronze was taken by Polanc, yes, very far from the two great aspirants. Roglic set a great time of 31:19, but it was not enough to reach the gold that Pogacar hung thanks to a record of 31:10. The differences, as in route, were minimal, but Tadej was slightly higher in the ascent of the port. The next stop for cycling will be in a month with the Vuelta a Burgos (July 28-August 1), but it is already clear that two of the riders who appear on the favorites list for the next Tour de France are in great shape. ..
