Gigi Datome, formerly of the NBA and now also of Fenerbahce, returns to his country to be one of the star signings of the Olympia of Messina.

The Olympia in Milan made official the signing of forward Luigi Datome, captain of the Italian team, who arrives in the Lombard capital from Fenerbahçe, with whom he was the Euroleague champion in 2017 and three-time champion of Turkey.

"The Pallacanestro Olimpia Milan announces that it has reached a three-year agreement with Luigi Datome, born in Montebelluna on November 27, 1987, 2.03 meters, forward, coming from Fenerbahçe," Milan reported in an official statement.

The general manager of the Olimpia Milan, Christos Stavropoulos, expressed his satisfaction at closing the signing of "a player who has everything the team looks for in an athlete: charisma, experience, human values and winning mentality" .

Dataome, 32, signed a three-year contract with Milan after a successful experience in Turkey, in which he won three consecutive league titles, between 2015 and 2018, three Turkish Cups and two President's Cups. The cherry on top of his stage in Turkey came in 2017, when Datome conquered the Euroleague with eleven points and six rebounds in the final against Olympiacos from Piraeus.

Previously, the captain of the Italian national team played in the NBA, first in the Detroit Pistons (2013-2015) and then in the Boston Celtics (2015).

"I am very happy to start this new chapter of my career in a historic and ambitious club like Olympia Milan," said Datome.
