Sampaoli goes to Justice to resolve his departure from Santos

The coach asks the judge to terminate his contract due to the delay in the payment of labor guarantee funds in the last four months.

Argentina's Jorge Sampaoli filed an action in Brazil's Labor Justice to resolve his departure from Santos, local media reported Wednesday. The coach asks the judge to terminate his contract due to the delay in the payment of labor guarantee funds in the last four months, according to the portal 'GloboEsporte'. The lawsuit was also filed by four members of the Sampaoli technical commission.

Santos announced on Tuesday night the departure of the former selector of Argentina and Chile who, according to the club, presented his resignation one day earlier during a meeting with the president of the entity, José Carlos Peres. However, Sampaoli denied that version and, in statements to the sports newspaper Lance !, said he had not yet "officially" resigned .

The parties apparently discuss the payment of a termination clause of about 10 million reais (about $ 2.4 million) initially included in the Sampaoli contract and must be paid in the event that any of the parties decided to break it before its conclusion, at the end of 2020.

However, according to the defense of Sampaoli, a few months ago they agreed an eventual rupture of the contract without the requirement of any payment, but provided that this occurred as of December 10,

Santos says that the coach verbally said goodbye on Monday, day 9, during the meeting with Peres, which has been interpreted by the club as a unilateral breach of the contract before the deadline, before which he demands payment of said clause

Pero Sampaoli denies it and has therefore entered the Justice to rescind the contract for the delay in some payments that correspond to avoid paying the fine for termination. The coach said goodbye to the fans in an open letter in which he described the São Paulo team as one of his "most beautiful" houses and revealed that "some structural circumstances" did not allow him to continue.

"Perhaps, this is simply a see you later and life allows us to meet again. Goodbyes are those sweet pains. Thank you very much, from my heart. I will carry you in my soul forever," he said in the letter. He also thanked the work of the players for believing in their philosophy, the workers of the Saints and the city.

"Santos is a wonderful place. They treated us as if we had lived here a lifetime. It will remain forever, too, that my third son, Leon, was born here," he said. In his opinion, sitting on the bench of the Saints allowed him to "believe again in dreams, in the game and in joy in football" .

"All these things I feel are, for me, a huge conquest because the demand and the immediate nature of this sport does not always allow us to be happy. In a world that treats us as objects, I felt human and that was a wonderful privilege." , highlighted

In recent weeks the Brazilian press was already talking about a premature goodbye from Sampaoli before his doubts about the planning of the workforce for the next campaign.

With less reinforcements than requested, the coach led the team to proclaim runner-up of the Brazilian League, which won with great superiority Flamengo, also winner of the Copa Libertadores.
