Jon Rahm, 2019 Best Golfer of the European Tour

The Basque golfer sees his great 2019 recognized with the titles of Ireland, Spain and the World Tour Championship. He inscribes his name with Seve Ballesteros and Sergio García.

The Basque Jon Rahm, winner of four tournaments this year, as well as the Race to Dubai, former Order of Merit, has been named 'Best Golfer of 2019' of the European Tour 2019 (European Circuit), being the third Spanish in history in achieving it, after Severiano Ballesteros and Sergio García.

Rahm, born in Barrica (Vizcaya) on November 10, 1994 and current third world player, has imposed himself in his third year as a professional in the Irish Open, Spanish Open (second consecutive) and World Tour Championship, of the European Circuit; as well as in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, along with American Ryan Palmer, tournament of the PGA Tour.

His brilliant performance in the European Circuit has earned him to rise with the Race to Dubai of the European Tour, something that only a Spaniard had achieved before: Seve Ballesteros (five occasions), when it was called Order of Merit.

Now, just ten days after winning the trophy that rewards the best player in the European Circuit tournaments that year, he has received the award of 'Best Golfer of the European Tour 2019.

"It is a great honor for me to be named the golfer of the year for the Hilton European Tour. Winning the Dubai Open Duty Free Irish and the DP World Tour Championship for the second time, as well as defending the Spanish Open, were incredible moments. But finishing the year as a winner of the Race to Dubai is something I am incredibly proud to achieve at this early stage of my career, "said Rahm, at a lunch at the Biltmore Mayfair Hotel in London where his award was announced.

Previously only two Spaniards had been distinguished with this important award: Seve Ballesteros (1986, 1988 and 1991) and Sergio García (2017). Rahm is also, along with the great Cantabrian of Pedreña, the second of them to win the prize of 'Best Golfer of the Year' being the European number.

"A true honor to follow Seve and Sergio as the third Spanish winner of the #ETGolferOfTheYear prize. There are so many legends on the list of past winners that I am honored to be with each of them! Thanks to @HiltonHonors for supporting the #ETGolferOfTheYear campaign, "Rahm commented on his twitter.

Keith Pelley, executive director of the European Circuit, highlighted the "incredible competition" that Rahm is and said that "this award also recognizes his impressive performances throughout the year." "Jon has a wonderful future ahead of him and is undoubtedly a well-deserved winner of the 2019 European European Tour Golfer of the Year award," he said.
