AEK Larnaca fulminates Idiákez and Murillo

After chaining three consecutive defeats that put a point above the relegation group, the Cypriot team announced the progress of its coach and sports director.

Second parts were never good. This is what Imanol Idiákez has confirmed in Cyprus. The Basque coach returned in January 2019 to AEK Larnaca, with whom he won the Cypriot Cup in his previous stage. The bad results, however, have ended the Basque out of a team that chains three consecutive defeats and has only won two of his last 10 games.

Despite having the goal of fighting again for the League, Imanol Idiákez met an aging team whose spine exceeds thirty. The Spanish coach reaped great results at the end of last season, but three victories in the first 12 days of the First Cypriot Division were insufficient to retain his position. During his second stage at AEK Larnaca, Idiákez led 34 games in which he won 18 wins, 11 draws and only five defeats.

The crisis ended up also taking Ander Murillo ahead, who after seven years as a team player assumed sporting direction in the summer of 2018, just after hanging up his boots. “Our appreciation and respect for Ander is unlimited and that is why we would like to thank you for contributing to the latest successes of our team. Our doors will always be open for him, ”wrote AEK Larnaca about the march of the San Sebastian.

Elias Charalambous, who served as an assistant in the coaching staff of Idiákez, takes over the bench thus ending five and a half years of Spanish coaches at AEK Larnaca -Thomas Christiansen, Imanol Idiákez and Andoni Iraola-. You also have to go back seasons to find a non-Spanish sports director in the Cypriot club: before Murillo they held the position Xavi Roca, now in the Panathinaikos, and Jordi Cruyff, who currently heads to the Chinese Chongqing Lifan.
