France wins its third Federation Cup against Australia

It is his third title in this competition, after those achieved in 1997 and 2003. Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia gave the final point.


Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia gave the French Federation Cup team the decisive point in the final of the tournament (3-2) by winning in two sleeves, 6-4 and 6-3, the doubles match against Australians Ashleigh Barty and Samantha Stosur. The previous four individual meetings had left the series matched to two points.

Kristina Mladenovic won her respective duels against Ajla Tomljanovic, in the first crossing of the final (6-1 and 6-1); and against Ashleigh Barty, leader of the world ranking of the WTA, in the third game of the series (2-6, 6-4 and 7-6). The Australians, hosts of the final played on the hard track at the RAC Arena in Perth, forced the tiebreaker doubles thanks to Ashleigh Barty's triumphs over Caroline Garcia (6-0 and 6-0) and Ajla Tomljanovic over Pauline Parmentier ( 6-4 and 7-5) .

For the final doubles match, Alicia Molik opted for Ashleigh Barty and Samantha Stosur, but the French couple, formed by Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, was better. The visitors were imposed by 6-4 and 6-3, in one hour and 16 minutes, and gave France their third title in the Federation Cup, after those achieved in 1997 and 2003.
