Dennis flies to the rainbow

The Australian won his second CRI World Cup. Evenepoel, silver, and Ganna, bronze. Castroviejo finished 24th and Mas, 39th: Spain will have a place in Tokyo.

Rohan Dennis, the defender of the rainbow against the clock, did not run from his frightened sound in the Tour: he left in the pre-match of the chrono, after a fight with his directors, and in Bahrain they did not know how he reached Bagnères-de-Bigorre, final of that stage. In fact, Australian completed the 54 kilometers from Northallerton to Harrogate with a BMC bike and not Merida, the second sponsor of his current team (although he has a contract for 2020, there seems to be no tuning between the parties involved). But said the lack of shooting and the controversy surrounding him since July: he doubled Victor Campenaerts and Primoz Roglic and revalidated his title with an overwhelming superiority. His wife received him with tears and their son in his arms: "I put things in their place, we deserved this joy." At 29, he holds triumphs in the three big and two world championships of CRI.

The spa town of Harrogate, home of the 2019 World Cups, hosted a rather decaffeinated men's chrono in terms of environment, very poor except at the start and at the finish line, and at battle for the result: Dennis took out 1:09 to Remco Evenepoel, silver, and 1:55 to Filippo Ganna, bronze. At least he respected the weather, and the cyclists dodged the downpour of previous days. 444444

Evenepoel, the 1911-year-old Belgian sensation, reached his first medal in the absolute category. After wiping out as a junior in 2018 (he was proclaimed double world champion and continental time trial and background), in 2019 already impresses in the timed discipline: gold in the European and World Cup silver. "I just took advantage of the best form of my life," he said humbly. Although Campenaerts, the current holder of the record of the hour, marked times to accompany his countryman on the podium, he fell, suffered a breakdown and had to change his bicycle: "An afternoon to forget." The Italian Ganna, brilliant pistard, entered the elite of the specialty with his third place.

only place in the chrono of the Tokyo Games. The points of a position within the top ten were needed. Roglic, just of forces after conquering the Vuelta, also did not offer his roll version: he finished 12th ... and in the victorious photo of Dennis as folded.
