This Tuesday Hyundai has presented in Valencia the third edition of the campaign # JuntosEnElAsfalto, with the aim of continuing to bet on the protection of cyclists and turn Spanish roads into a safer space for all.

In the presentation of the campaign, which has taken place in the restaurant NOU RACÓ, Hyundai has had the support of representatives of the DGT, FESVIAL, RACE and the direction of the Vuelta Ciclista to the Valencian Community, who have wanted to support with their presence and their testimony the initiative .

A group of outstanding athletes- such as the world champion in adapted cycling track, Ricardo Ten or the winner of the Paralympic Games, David Casinos - wanted to show their support for the initiative collaborating in the video of the campaign and participating in the inaugural exit, which has started the campaign #JuntosEnElAsfalto 2019. This year the Va tries to continue giving visibility to this Hyundai service and insists on the need for athletes to carry out their protected sports practices.

A campaign that grows every year

Compared by relevant institutions, Leopoldo Satrústegui, CEO of Hyundai Motor Spain, has announced the values and objectives of the campaign that year after year exceeds all expectations. "At Hyundai we continue to bet on creating a safe space for cycling on Spanish roads. Although every year more clubs request the support car, it is important that the message reaches all the cycling clubs."

Since it started the campaign in 2017, there are more than 8000 cyclists from all over Spain who have benefited from the protection of the Hyundai. car The presence of this vehicle at the end of the cyclist peloton ensures that the vehicles that circulate on the road execute a correct overtaking, respecting the safety meter and medium, which by law must be applied when carrying out this maneuver.

Although the figures reflect the success of this awareness campaign, Angel Casero, winner of the cycling tour of Spain in 2001 and director of the Tour of the Cycling Comunidad Valenciana, insists on the importance of this service "the support car is indispensable for oder to carry out a safe training. The vehicle creates a protection space for the cyclist. Not only does it fulfill the function of protecting the squad, but it also serves as a warning for the rest of the vehicles. "The cyclist has also pointed out" that athletes are a model of behavior for others and the support car is an example of good practice. "

Road accidents, a problem of all

The tragic accident figures are still a reality on Spanish roads. According to the advance of the Road Traffic Accident Balance of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), in 2018 36 cyclists died on Spanish roads. Although this figure is provisional, and only includes the deceased 24 hours after the accident occurred, the figure demonstrates the vulnerability of this group. In addition, Juan Mari Guajardo, moderator of the act, wanted to remember that, a few days after the start of the summer, the highest rates of road accidents are recorded, especially in the months of July and August.

Maria Pilar Fúnez, provincial head of the DGT, has defended that initiatives such as #JuntosEnElAsfalto "Redundan in the improvement of road safety and give the place they deserve cyclists and of course helps us live and respect."

La importance of the pedagogical factor and road safety education has been pointed out by Luis Montoro, president of FESVIAL and Professor of Road Safety at the University of Valencia: "If we had better training we would know better the norm, we would be more empathetic and therefore we would need less control on the roads."

For his part, Antonio Lucas, director of Road Safety Institution to RACE, has highlighted from this initiative that cyclists perceive that the vehicle becomes a protection, instead of a threat. "Regulations, research, safety, both active and passive, together with the human factor and training, are the keys to a road safety model that ensures coexistence between drivers and cyclists". Lucas has insisted that there is not a single type of cyclist, the road, the urban or the cyclist, and therefore, "we need research to know each of them and actions like this, in which vehicle manufacturers, such as Hyundai, commit to raise awareness among all users of the road ".

To end the act, Leopoldo Satrústeui has presented the video of the #JuntosEnElAsfalto campaign, which shows the risks that cyclists assume every day in their road training. The Hyundai CEO wanted to highlight "the courage and courage of these athletes, who represent the spirit that keeps alive the mission of Together in the Asphalt ".
