Dumoulin will not run the Tour

The Sunweb cyclist assumes that he is not at the "necessary level" to contest the race after his abandonment and knee injury in the Giro.

Tom Dumoulin will not contest the Tour de France, which starts next July 6 in Brussels. The Sunweb rider retired in the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia with a knee injury after being involved in a montonera in the final kilometers. He tried to rest and recover to reach the gala round, he even participated in the Dauphiné (which left with discomfort in the injured knee), but is not at the "necessary level" .

Así explained by the cyclist himself in the note released by Sunweb : "The last month was extremely difficult in general, with several setbacks in the recovery of the knee. After what happened in the Giro, I had a lot of desire to do well in the Tour, but this week I realized that it is not realistic for me to recover my best version in time ". Dumoulin recently underwent a small surgery to remove gravel from his knee and ruled out the idea of concentrating on altitude in the Alps.

In conjunction with the absence of Chris Froome (seriously injured in the Dauphiné), two of the three occupants of the podium of 2018 will be lost the edition of 2019. And Geraint Thomas, the reigning champion, fell in Switzerland and will go short preparation to Belgium. The appointment will be presented open and the previous tests, quite rugged.
