Stage 3: Classifications of the day and so is the general Giro

Fernando Gaviria was awarded the second stage that ended up packing the Giro, after Viviani, winner in the first instance, was disqualified.

Fernando Gaviria premiered his record in this Giro d'Italia after achieving victory in the third stage. At first, the victory was for the Italian Elia Viviani, who was the strongest in the sprint. Gaviria himself congratulated the Deceuninck on goal. However, the transalpine champion varied his career in the final meters and hurt Matteo Moschetti, of the Trek. For this reason, the organization disqualified the winner in the first instance. Carapaz and Tao Geoghegan Hart were left among the runners in the top positions.
