Valverde challenges with the rainbow the Flanders classics

The world champion will compete on Wednesday in Flanders before being tested for the first time in the Tour of Flanders, one of the five Monuments of cycling.

Alejandro Valverde faces this week one of the most demanding weeks since the rainbow jersey of world champion looks. The Murcia faces two tests of the UCI World Tour where he hopes to stand out among the main classics of the peloton: A Through Flanders, where will run this Wednesday, April 3 and the Tour of Flanders, which will be held this Sunday, April 7,

It will be the third time that Valverde competes in the Dwars door Vlaanderen, which serves as an advance to the second Monument of the season, after participating in 2014 , where he finished in a discreet 36th position, and in 2018, where he managed to shine and be very combative on the cobblestones although in the final stage he did not manage to enter the court that played the victory and finished in eleventh position.

But surely one of the tests that more illusion does to him to the murciano is 'De Ronde', where finally it does not partic ipó in 2018 although it was speculated that he did so since he accepted to run the Miguel Indurain Grand Prize on the occasion of the tribute to José Miguel Echávarri. Valverde will try to be protagonist in the second monument of the season where will try to stand with the best of the bunch in the climbs to Oude Kwaremont, the famous Kapelmuur and the demanding Paterberg to seek victory in Oudenaarde in a race in which no Spanish cyclist has achieved to win and in which Juan Antonio Flecha in 2008 achieved the only Spanish podium to date.
