The Thunder continue to drift: fall to the Mavs without Doncic

The Oklahomans are eighth and their options to climb positions in the West are complicated. Westbrook had in his hands the extension but missed the final three.

The Thunder continue to show that they are a team of gusts. Just over a month ago, the Oklahoma franchise showed itself as one of the most fit teams of the moment: it had 12 wins from 14 games with Paul George at a tremendous level and I was fighting for fourth place and, more importantly, the court factor for the playoffs. Five weeks later the team of Billy Donovan sinks in the eighth position of the West. This time after falling in his own court before a Mavericks (103-106) without two of its fundamental pillars: Luka Doncic and Tim Hardaway Jr.

Lo worst of all are the sensations that continue to give the Oklahoma, even more so before a block whose main concern is to get one of the first five elections of the next draft (if not your choice would go to Atlanta), and that happens through Do not improve your league balance. Despite this and the casualties they had, the Texans were able to compete and send in the scoreboard for several minutes of the match, highlighting the importance of Trey Burke, with 25 points and 4 of 8 in triples and Jalen Brunson continues to grow and he threw the team to his back in the last minutes, closing the duel with 18 points and 4 assists.

The visitors, with an initial roster in which was Nowitzki, were better in the first quarter (24 -31). This domain was reduced before the break with Paul George as the main offensive weapon. The forward, with 17 points, was the top scorer of the duel so far but his team depend a lot of the contribution of his Big Three, which added 43 of the team's 56 points to the break (56-58). The return of the changing rooms did not change the dynamics of the match. Westbrook pulled the premises but responded a sublime Trey Burke from the outside. The base of the Texans scored 10 points after the break, closing the quarter with a distant triple on the horn, giving to understand that the Mavericks would give war until the end.

Y so it was. The final twelve minutes (75-80) began and Thunder equaled the score but the domain of the game was a visitor. That tug of war lasted until the end of the duel. It was there when Brunson excelled with a tray and an assist after rectifying in the air (to Powell) to put his team ahead with 21 seconds remaining. The Thunder would not put a point in that period: they failed two attacks, one of them after offensive rebound, needed Broekhoff (who got the free throws) and, with four seconds to play, Westbrook missed the final triple.

De this way the franchise of the city of the ray added its seventh defeat in the last nine games. They continue eighth and break the equality in the balance with the Spurs: they are now half a game below the Popovich block. Not to change the course in the five remaining games, all points that the Thunder will have the Golden State Warriors as the first date in the playoffs, the opponent to avoid the entire conference.
