The Arsenal, rival of the Valencia in the end of the Recopa of 1980

The 'gunner' team brings good memories to the Blue and Whites. Not only because of that European title won 39 years ago; He also eliminated it in the Champions 2000-01.

The Valencia will face Arsenal in the semifinals of the Europa League. And the rival brings good memories to the che. The English team was their opponent in the final of the European Cup Winners Cup in 1980. The black and white men won the penalty shootout, having tied 0-0 in the 120 minutes. The goalkeeper Pereira was the hero of that penalty shoot-out when he stopped two penalties against Brady and Rix, the latter the definitive one who gave the title to Valencia. Interestingly, Kempes, the top figure of Valencia, had missed the first penalty of the tanda.

Also Arsenal was a che rival in the 2000-01 season, in the quarterfinals of the Champions. The blacks came back 2-1 of Highbury, they prevailed in the return (1-0) with a Carew goal and ended up reaching the final against Bayern. In 2002-03 they were also paired in the second phase of the Champions. Valencia won (2-1) at the Mestalla, with two goals from Carew and in London they finished 0-0.

This was the last official duel between Valencia and Arsenal but in 2008 the London team played in Mestalla the presentation party. Valencia won with goals (2-0) with goals from Villa and Míchel. In 2014, Valencia won the Emirates Cup although they did not face the Arsenal.
