Return to the Basque Country 2019: stages, profiles and route

Check here the route and profiles of the six stages of the Vuelta al País Vasco 2019, which starts on Monday, April 8, in Zumarraga.

New appointment of the UCI World Tour calendar of the 2019 season on the occasion of the Return to the Basque Country. It will consist of seis stages and 22 ports distributed in the 783 kilometers that make up the Itzulia this year. In addition, it will have profiles for almost all types of runners with flat days, medium and high mountain, and an initial time trial that will serve to establish the first differences between the favorites. From 8 to 14 April, from Zumarraga to Eibar, excitement will be served in the Basque Country.

Stage 1

The race will start with a practically flat individual time trial of 11.3 kilometers. In the last section will have the level of La Antigua, short and very explosive: 2.3 kilometers at 9.7% average slope. In the final meters, this rise presents its most bestial levels with rampas of 21% . Runners who are not specialists can defend themselves very well in this stage.

Stage 2

The first stage in line will be legbreakers, with a profile of half mountain and two third category ascents: Olaberria Gaina and Lizarrusti (3rd). The 'sterrei 'will also be present, with a total of sections of land of almost five kilometers. The goal in Gorraiz itches up and explosive runners could have great options to win in a hard terresin for sprinters.

Stage 3

The third stage will be the st longest of the week with a total of 191 kilometers. It will be another day of half mountain, but with ascensions of greater entity. The long Goñi (2ª), with more than 26 kilometers, will harden the race in the early stages of the stage. One more day, the arrival will again bite up in the town of Estibaliz.

Stage 4

Before the highlight of this Tour of the Basque Country, there will be another half-mountain stage between Vitoria and Arrigorriaga. The ascent to Bikotz Gane, first category with slope of 8.6%, can select a group of chosen on its hard ramps. From there, a prolonged descent until facing the last port of the day, the third Zaratamo, in whose descent the victory will be decided.

Stage 5

First decisive stage with the appearance of the high mountain. The etapa reina of this Tour of the Basque Country has up to seven ports concentrated in only 149 kilometers. The imposing Usartza (1st), from 5 kilometers to 8.8% average slope, will dictate sentence at the end of the day.

Stage 6

Following the mountainous tonic of this Itzulia 2019, the last day will also be high mountain with a total of six levels: three of third, one of second and two of first category. The Asensio, the last port of the stage, will lead the runners by a long descent of almost 20 kilometers to the town of Eibar, where the race will end.
