Flecha Valona 2019: Spaniards, favorites and absences

Alejandro Valverde will be, once again, the best Spanish trick to win the victory. Julian Alaphilippe, maximum favorite.

Decir Valona Arrow is referring to two names: Alejandro Valverde and Julian Alaphilippe. The Frenchman is the current champion and will defend his 2018 title; the Spanish, the maximum dominator of the test in the last seasons (four consecutive Arrows between 2014 and 2017) . But beyond these two great runners, there are other favorites to victory, more Spanish runners who will try to give spectacle and other great absences that will not suffer the 195 kilometers that make up the race. The Wall of Huy will dictate sentence.

Alejandro Valverde

El murciano is the great dominator of the test in recent years. Pentacampeón of the race, (2006, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017), Valverde hopes to give a blow of effect to his current season, where he has only achieved a triumph to date (1 stage in the UAE Tour) . The state shape of the rainbow jersey is the big question, because in the Amstel Gold Race was not accompanied by the forces and ended out of the top-50, something unusual in him.

Julian Alaphilippe

The leader of the set Deceuninck QuickStep has been the only capable to get in the way of the tyranny of Alejandro Valverde in this race. He did it in 2018, beating precisely the Murcian, who finished second. He is the leader of the UCI ranking and is signing a dream season winning day races such as Strade Bianche or Milan-San Remo. Badly managed his advantage in the Amstel Gold Race when he had a very favorable hand against Fuglsang and was overtaken by Hurricane Van der Poel. Surely the Frenchman wants to get rid of the 'thorn'.

Michal Kwiatkowski

The Polish will be the leader of the Sky set for a career profile that adapts like a glove to his characteristics. He already showed good legs last Sunday in the Amstel Gold Race, being with the best in the key moments of the race. En Flecha knows what it is to get on the podium (it was 3rd in 2014) and arrives with good results this season: 3rd in Paris-Nice and 3rd in Milan-San Remo.

Adam Yates

The Briton arrives to lead the team Mitchelton and it is one of the main favorites for betting houses. His results for 2019 support him, since Adam is being especially regular. He has been top-10 in all the general classifications and has won stages in Vuelta al País Vasco, Volta a Catalunya, Tirreno-Adriatico and Vuelta a la Comunidad Valenciana. The explosive climbs of this type of routes are favorable.

Others

Among the rest of the runners who make up the fan of favorites we must highlight the names of Daniel Martin (podium three times), Tim Wellens, Jakob Fuglsang, Jelle Vanendert (3rd in 2018), Dylan Teuns (3rd in 2017), Michael Matthews, Peter Sagan, Alexey Lutsenko and Michael Woods, among others.

Spanish

The team Astana will be one of the most powerful blocks with a Spanish presence: Omar Fraile, Luis León Sánchez and the brothers Izagirre. Among the rest of the teams highlights the participation of Jesús Herrada (Cofidis), Carlos Verona and Imanol Erviti (Movistar) .

Absences

By injuries or calendar planning, the most significant ausencias of the Walloon Arrow 2019 are: Chris Froome, Simon Yates, Philippe Gilbert, Tom Dumoulin, Wilco Keldermann, Primoz Roglic, Steven Kruijswijk, Nairo Quintana, Mikel Landa or Greg Van Avermaet, Mathieu Van der Poel, among others.
