Osaka and Pliskova give no surprise option in Indian Wells

The reigning champion beat Danielle Collins to enter the second round where Bencic will be measured. Pliskova, Kerber and Venus Williams also passed the round.

Naomi Osaka continues with her way to revalidate the title of champion of the Indian Mandates Premier Mandatory. The Japanese tennis player, first favorite to the final triumph, won in two sets to the American Danielle Collins, semifinalist in the last Open of Australia, in two sets for 6-4 and 6-2 and is already in the last 16. Osaka will now fight for a place in the quarterfinals against Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, who beat Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4 and 6-2.
