Froome signs its worst start to the season since 2012

The British, except in the season in which he became known as gregarious Wiggins, always managed, at least, a top-10 in the races where he participated.

Chris Froome has not started the 2019 season with the best sensations. The data is there and does not lie: the Briton has signed his th start of the year since 2012. That season, Froome ceased to be a stranger to the world of cycling when it was uncovered as gregario of Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France. Both signed a historic double of the Sky for British cycling, with Wiggins at the top of the podium.

Until that moment, the preparation of Froome was quiet, with discrete results prior to the gala round (except the 4th place of the Dauphiné Liberé ). Since then, assuming the role of absolute leader of the Sky, Froome always had stood at this stage of the calendar, achieving at least a top-10 in any of the races where he participated.

The 2013 course was the most prolific for the British in This sense, since it chained a series of triumphs of the highest level until arriving at the Tour: Omán, Criterium Internacional, Tour de Romandía and Dauphiné. Immediately afterwards, similar state of form led him to win his first Grande Boucle.

And in the following seasons, at this time, Froome continued to accumulate successes like the general of the Tour of Oman (2014), Return to Andalucía (2015) or the Herald Sun Tour (2016). However, in the last campaigns, the leader of the Sky has begun to lower its level in the first months of competition. Despite not shining, Froome did at least get a top-10 in a date: 6º in the Herald Sun of 2017 and 10º in the Vuelta a Andalucía of 2018.

This decline has been accentuated so far this season , where Froome still does not find good feelings and where he has left minutes in his two appearances: Tour de Colombia (91º in general) and Volta a Catalunya (he gave 26 minutes in stage 3). Beyond the fall in the Catalan round and the altitude, which took its toll on the South American race, it seems that not only bad luck is influencing in its lack of results in which, with all certainty, it is already the worst start of the British campaign for seven years. We will see if in the Tour of the Alps, next stop on the road map of Froome, changes the trend ...
