Follow the escabechina in Paris-Nice: wind, falls and 11 dropouts in three stages

This Tuesday, in the 3rd stage, the peloton again suffered multiple cuts by the wind, some montonera and two new abandonments in an edition of extreme hardness.

La Paris-Nice, the so-called race of the sun, does not always show its name, and if in the 2018 edition its outcome was marked by heavy rain, in this 2019 the wind is the great protagonist. An element that is leaving a favorable ground for the battle, as is seen with the attempts of Egan Bernal to break the group, but also gives rise to numerous problems and falls that in three days have already claimed several illustrious victims.

This Tuesday, in the third stage, the falls again affected the peloton, including Marc Soler who had to endure several problems, although the worst stopped was Damen Novak, a Slovenian cyclist from Bahrain, who had to retire. Fabio Aru, afflicted with a virus, also got off the bike with what are already 11 dropouts in three days.

The most serious was lived on the day of Monday, Gorka Izagirre was involved in a sharp fall that forced him to leave and go to a hospital in which serious injuries were ruled out. He was not so lucky Warren Barguil, who in the same accident suffered a double bill in the cervical vertebra. Shortly before, Rigoberto Urán had also gone to the floor suffering a fractured clavicle. Neither could they finish or Meintjes, who after being involved in a fall was not able to enter in time, nor Cavendish, unable to follow the chaotic rhythm in his return to the competition after a virus.

Ya on the opening day, Michael Matthews gave the scare with a tremendous blow that produced a concussion, while his partner Tusveld fractured his jaw. Also the Belgian De Buyst, with an accident that produced several fractures in a homoplate, was out of race.
