Federer squanders class against Wawrinka and hits eighth

The Swiss beat his compatriot, 6-3 and 6-4, in one hour and achieved the pass to the second round. His next opponent will be the British Kyle Edmund.

The Swiss Roger Federer squandered class against his compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka, whom he beat on Tuesday by 6-3 and 6-4 in an hour to access the round of Indian Wells, first Masters 1000 of the season.

Federer, that owns a mark of 17-0 in fast tracks against his great friend (22-3 in all surfaces), will face in the next round to the British Kyle Edmund, an unprecedented duel so far in the circuit.

The number four of the world, that has a record of 10-1 so far this season, scored the first in 28 minutes in the presence of Pete Sampras. In the second, things went down the same path and, faced with the difficulties of Wawrinka with the serve, Federer put the direct towards an incontestable triumph.
